Fixed Appliances Vs. Removable Appliances

Our Kanning Orthodontics team wants you to know everything you need to know. You’re entitled to know about your treatment alternatives. Knowing more about your condition and the available treatments is the foundation for your new, spectacular smile.

New patients in our Kansas City and Liberty offices often ask us about the differences between fixed and removable orthodontic devices. The biggest distinction is in their name. Dr. Kanning applies fixed appliances, such as braces, directly to your teeth.

But what happens if the doctor recommends a removable option like the clear aligner system? You'll enjoy the flexibility of wearing the aligners for the majority of the day — and you can take them out as needed.

Both types of appliances serve particular purposes. We typically reserve clear aligners to address mild to moderate orthodontic concerns. On the other hand, Dr. Kanning often recommends fixed appliances for more complicated orthodontic treatments.
